Companies & Organizations Supporting You – The Youth Shooter: Midway USA & the Scholastic Shooting Trust Fund

Did you know that there are many organizations and companies that actively support youth shooting activities? Most of the companies that make up the shooting industry sponsor youth shooting events by providing products for prizes and donations. Many of them support youth oriented shooting magazines like Junior Shooters or youth organizations that emphasize the shooting sports such as 4-H, the Boy Scouts, NRA, and our Olympic shooting organization USA Shooting. Some of these companies and organizations are also involved in scholarship programs for our youth. Others have looked around at our industry and the country as a whole and determined that there is a shortfall in how shooting sports are being both presented to our youth and made available to students at our country’s schools. This is where safe shooting competition and awareness of safety and firearms should start. Such companies and organizations deserve our thanks and our support.
MidwayUSA and its owners, Larry and Brenda Potterfield, became very concerned about this and created the MidwayUSA Foundation, Inc. It was created in 2007 to support education in shooting sports, hunting, firearms safety and outdoor skills. This was quickly followed by a fund specifically to promote safe shooting sports education in our public schools.
The Scholastic Shooting Trust (SST) (www.scholasticshootingtrust.org) was formed to provide funding for shooting sports education in traditional public and private high schools, colleges and universities, so that participating students can improve their confidence, discipline and leadership skills. Alumni, families of team members and community members fund the grants through donations to the Scholastic Shooting Trust so that youths have a better opportunity to compete in the shooting sports.
