100_3180While few, if any, of our young readers are old enough, many of your grandparents, parents, aunts, and uncles will remember one of the most popular attractions at the many State and County fairs across the country was the Shooting Gallery. As hard as it may be to believe today, just about every fair across rural America had a booth set up where anyone could shoot targets or balloons with real .22 rimfire rifles, usually using low power .22 Short ammunition. Often the targets were small moving targets shaped like ducks, chickens, rabbits, or circles that slowly moved horizontally across the gallery, testing the shooting skills of the marksmen and women, including the kids. Everyone was welcome to try their hand at being the top gun. Small toys and stuffed animals were usually the prizes given to the best shooters.

Unfortunately, the day of the carnival shooting gallery is gone forever, but fear not my young readers, the good folks at Caldwell Shooting Supply have come up with a portable version of this once beloved form of shooting fun called the Caldwell Shootin’ Gallery.

100_3185The Shootin’ Gallery, manufactured by Caldwell, is a portable moving target that is about three-feet long with a series of round targets mounted on a moving chain that moves about one foot every three seconds across the top of the green frame front. The targets are mounted so that they fall over when hit with a .22 rimfire bullet and then are automatically reset as the chain moves around its cycle. The targets are about 1-1/2" in diameter and show up very well when the provided adhesive bright orange circle targets are applied. As the targets move across the gallery the shooter is given an endless supply of slow moving targets which will be a challenge to both beginning and experienced shooters alike.

As the orange stickers are shot away new ones can be reapplied whenever needed. The entire system is powered by a dry-cell battery that can be recharged with the 110 volt charger that is included in the package. TargetThe front of the gallery is constructed of heavy gauge sheet metal that can withstand the impact of poorly aimed shots as long as you use standard-velocity .22 long rifle ammunition that is recommended by Caldwell.

When using the Shootin’ Gallery, the same safety precautions should be used that apply to any shooting exercise, including, eye and ear protection.

The new Caldwell Shootin’ Gallery is one fun shooting experience for shooters of all ages and my two grandsons, Cody and Colton give it a big ?thumbs up? for fun and shooter training. You can learn more about this and all the great shooting supplies and equipment from Caldwell by going online to:
